I recently went on a photography workshop led by Joanna to the wonderful Fes, Morocco. I had an amazing time - Joanna is a great teacher and I saw places that I wouldn't have seen if I'd travelled there on my own. I was part of an amazing group of fellow photographers - we had a lot of fun and learnt so much. The pace of the week was perfect - lots to see and photograph along with daily challenges and evening shows of what we'd all done. Regular one-to-ones, fabulous food and accommodation all brilliantly organised by Joanna. I would whole heartedly recommend these workshops - as a solo traveller it was an amazing adventure.

I have just returned from Joanna’s weeklong photography workshop in Fes, Morocco. What an amazing experience! From the beautiful accommodations to the delicious food, the carefully curated activities and the personalized instruction, it was an incredible time. Joanna is certainly a most talented photographer, but she is also an excellent teacher/mentor. She’s extremely knowledgeable and willing to assist you in your photography journey in any way that you need, regardless of your level of skill. I highly recommend participating in one of Joanna’s workshops if you have the opportunity!!!

Just last month, I was very lucky to attend my first workshop with Joanna in Fez, Morocco and what an experience it was! Within the 9 days of staying in a beautiful riad, working and learning among some great photographers, I can proudly say how much I have grown as a young photographer. Joanna took the time to meet 1 on 1 with every participant, set daily challenges which pushed everyone to their utmost. The places we saw, meeting and interacting with local artisans and locals alike, truly enriched the entire experience of a place I never thought I would visit on my own. Being mentored by Joanna for some time now, I recommend Joanna's professionalism and workshops anytime for those who want to push their limits and learn as much as possible in the world of photography and travel. Thank you Joanna again for such an unforgettable experience!

Joanna Maclennan is an inspiring photography teacher. I have now taken four of her workshops and each time I have advanced my photography in a different way, all while having an incredible time experiencing a new culture. Joanna's groups are small and selective and offer curious travelers the opportunity to journey beyond typical tourist sites to hidden locations, artisans, collectors and homes. This one of a kind experience is memorable and engaging and provides lots of opportunities for challenging and compelling photography. Her workshops are well run and crafted to provide structure and goals for the week while also allowing opportunity for happenstance and serendipity along the way. I would be remiss if i didn't say how much fun, laughter and friendship you will share as well! I cannot recommend her workshops more highly - you will never regret signing up and traveling with Joanna.

I was lucky to attend a week long photography workshop/retreat led by Joanna in September 2025. Every aspect of the retreat was first class- food, accommodation, instruction and scheduling. The small group of attendees had a range of experience with photography and used a variety of equipment - from professional cameras to iPhones. The programme was very thoughtfully arranged, exciting and enjoyable. I learnt more in a week than I would have thought possible. Joanna is a very talented, experienced photographer but also relaxed and kind which makes her a great instructor. If you get the chance of working with Joanna grab it, she’s a gem.

Our very large and boisterous family stayed in Provence last week, and Joanna was given the task of photographing us. Not quite sure how she pulled it off, but she orchestrated a lengthy photo shoot and made it fun. Really fun! She’s delightful, our family loved the experience, and the photo teaser she shared with us excites us about what we’re soon to receive. I enthusiastically recommend Joanna for family photography!

Joanna just completed yet another fantastic photo shoot for my clients here in Provence. No matter what the assignment (my clients and I book her for portrait sessions, guided photo tours, half- and full-day photo workshops, etc.), Joanna always knocks it out of the park. She's the consummate professional, from start to finish. My clients love her...her images are always gorgeous...and time and again she makes me look like a hero for hiring her. Thanks Jo!

Our family flew in from all corners of the US and France to spend a few weeks at a lovely home in Cabannes, a quaint town in Provence. We asked Joanna to photograph us one of our early evenings with the intent of capturing a group photo, as well as some candids as we prepped the outdoor dining area for dinner. What we got was a wonderfully art directed full family portrait, as well as smaller requested clusters, candid shots, and some additional staged photos that were artfully blocked to take advantage of the natural light. Joanna was a delight to work with, happy to take our direction, but also keenly adept at being able to see the potential for an image we had never imagined, and capturing it with skill and expertise. She was wonderful to work with, and I could not be more enthusiastic in recommending her for any future projects.
